Learning to Read and Write.
"In moments of agony, I envied my fellow slaves for their stupidity". Frederick Douglass took every available chance he had to read, when he went on errends he always brought his book. Being a slave he wasn't allowed to read or write. He had to keep his reading a secret. I can't imagine a life where you aren't allowed to read or write. Now a days it is frowed upon if anyone doesn't know how to read or write. The more he read though the more he thought about freedom and his constant thinking about freedom caused him agony and that is why he envied his fellow slaves for their stupidity. I love reading about the past and seeing how different things used to be. It makes me appreciate my life more.
